Help

With this program our aim is to provide you with assistance in your tendering and planning work. It encompasses all the information relevant to the entire range of HEWI products.

These help pages contain information on the following subjects:

Overview

Once you have selected a menu item in the product catalogue or as the result of a search operation, you will be shown an overview page listing the items found. A maximum of 10 items can be shown on this page. On this page you can scroll down using the scroll bar or the 'scroll down' key. Should in excess of 10 items have been found, you can use the arrow beside the 'page X / Y' display to scroll forwards and back on the pages found.

In the event of it being possible to further classify the items found, a drop-down box will be shown in the top left-hand side of the window beneath the page heading enabling you to select further options. By choosing a term from those offered, you can further limit the scope of the product overview displayed, thus helping you to find the right products for your solution. In the case of complex products, further drop-down boxes may appear once your selection has been made, enabling you to further limit your search.

For each item in the product overview, you can call up further functions by clicking on the appropriate link in the right-hand column:

Detail view

You are shown the following information directly when you select an item's detail view option:

  • Item number
  • Item designation
  • Catalogue text
  • Colour scheme
  • A maximum of 3 photos

To enlarge the photos or the colour scheme you should click on the appropriate picture with the left-hand mouse button. This causes a further window to open in which you can press the right-hand mouse button to call up the context menu and store the pictures as a file.

Via the drop-down box 'drawings / additional info', you can access further information on a specific item. The information can include the following depending on the item concerned:

  • Text for tendering
  • View
  • Isometric drawings
  • Installation instructions
  • Operating instructions
  • Combination tips
  • Planning aid
  • etc.

This additional information is also displayed in a separate browser window. Texts for tendering, views and isometric drawings can be copied in this window via the Windows intermediate memory and inserted into other Windows applications.

All other items of information are deposited in the form of PDF documents and displayed via the Acrobat-Reader.

The detail view option enables you to call up further functions by clicking on the appropriate link:

See appropriate section for details of functions.

Notepad

The notepad acts as an aide-memoire or collection box for all the items you require information on for your tender. It currently offers no ordering function. It does however enable you to conveniently print and export data on many items.

You can create more than one notepad and individually name them, e.g. the name of the project you are currently working on. The notepads are memorised even if you exit the HEWI Infoware and can be further processed the next time you access the program.

The 'Add to notepad' function on the product overview page or the item detail view is used to put the item concerned into the current notepad.

The notepad can be accessed via the menu item 'notepad' on the menu bar, enabling you to examine all the items it contains and further process the contents.

The notepad offers you a variety of functions for processing purposes:

  • You can create more than one notepad and name them as you wish. Please note that items are placed in the notepad currently selected by using the 'Add to notepad' function.
  • You can enter the number of units you require per item for your tender (only relevant for the item list print-out). Click on 'change' once you have made your entries to save them.
  • Via the 'print''print' function in the headline of the notepad, you can print out all the items you have placed in the notepad. Once you have selected the function you require, you can choose whether in a separate window whether you want to print out the individual product data sheets or an overview of all the items in the notepad. The overview comprises an item list with the name of the notepad, item numbers, quantity, item designation and catalogue text or text for tender.
  • Via the 'export function' function in the headline of the notepad, you can export the data of all the items that have been placed in the notepad. Once you have selected the function you require, you are shown in a separate window in which information is available on each item and can be exported.
  • Via the 'display details' function in the right-hand column, you are also able to call up the detail view of the item concerned.
  • Via the 'delete from notepad' function in the right-hand column, you can delete items from the notepad.
  • Via the 'export function' function in the right-hand column, you can export data for the item concerned. Once you have selected the function you require, you are shown in a separate window which information is available on each item and can be exported.
  • Via the 'empty' function in the headline of the notepad, you can remove all the items from the current notepad. The notepad can still be used under its current name.
  • Via the "delete" function in the headline of the notepad, you can delete the entire notepad together with its contents. The notepad concerned can then be no longer used under its current name. Should you delete all notepads, the program will automatically create a new notepad with the name 'standard'.

Print functions

There are a number of print functions available to you:

  • On the product overview page and in the notepad you will find the function 'print' in the right-hand column after each item. You can use this function to print out a product data sheet for the given item that contains either the catalogue text or the text for tender, outline drawings (isometric drawings and a dimensioned view) and the photos.
  • A print-out of the product data sheet can also be obtained via the 'print' function in the detail view of a given item.
  • Via the 'print' function in the headline of the notepad , you can print out all the items you have added to the notepad. Once you have selected the function you require, you can choose whether you want to print out the individual product data sheets or an overview of all the items in the notepad. The overview comprises an item list with the name of the notepad, item numbers, quantity, item designation and catalogue text or text for tender.

Exporting data

The 'export' function is available to you in several places.

  • On the product overview page and in the notepad, you will find the 'export' function in the right-hand column after each item. This enables you to export data for the individual items.
  • You can also call up the export function for data pertaining to a single item via the detail view of the item concerned.
  • Via the 'export' function in the headline of the notepad, you can export the data of all the items that have been placed in the notepad.

Once you have selected the 'export' function, you are shown in a separate window which information is available on each item and can be exported. The following data is available for export:

  • Texts for tender in Datanorm or ASCII format
  • Pictures
  • Outline drawings
  • CAD data
  • Installation instructions and similar additional information

Once the information required has been selected, you have to enter the name of the directory in which the files should be written. The default setting is an 'export' directory that was created within the Infoware program directory.

Once you have clicked on 'export', all the data in the file you have selected is memorised and is available for further processing via e.g. your tendering software. Please note that Datanorm files are always given the name 'Datanorm' without any other file ending with the result that any existing Datanorm file in the directory will be overwritten.

A special feature of the program is the CAD data in DXF format. For reasons of space, this data is located on the CD in zipped form. What happens is that an executable file with the file suffix EXE is copied on to the export directory. Simply calling up the file (double clicking) causes the original file to be unzipped.

Browser settings

In the event of the HEWI Infoware not being displayed correctly on your system, it could be that Javascript is deactivated on your browser.

  • To activate this in Internet Explorer select the item 'Internet options' in your browser's 'settings' menu. A new window should open in which you have to select the 'security' sheet'. Next, click on the 'adapt step' button in the bottom part of the window. Look for the items 'Java settings' and 'scripting' in the list and activate these functions by marking the appropriate radio buttons.
  • To activate Javascript in Netscape, select 'settings' from the 'edit' menu'. A new window should open in which you should click on the item 'expanded' on the structural tree in the left-hand part of the window. Activate the settings for Java in the right-hand part of the window by marking the appropriate radio buttons.
If the menu is not being displayed correctly, this would indicate that the page cache on your browser is deactivated.
  • To activate the cache in Internet Explorer, select the item 'Internet options' in your browser's 'settings' menu. Click on the 'settings' button on the 'general' sheet under 'temporary files'. Mark the radio button 'automatic" in the upper part of the window.
  • To activate the cache in Netscape, select 'settings' from the 'edit' menu. A new window should open in which you should click on the item 'expanded' on the structural tree in the left-hand part of the window and then on 'cache'. Mark the radio button 'automatic" in the right-hand part of the window.

Exporting tips

  • Export the required information on to your hard disk via the overview page, detail view or notepad functions and from there insert it on to the target program. The texts for tender can be transferred via Datanorm, for instance, on to a tendering program.
  • Using the Windows intermediate memory: mark the text required and copy it on to the intermediate memory via the context menu ('right mouse button' + 'copy' or 'Control-C'). Insert the contents of the clipboard on to the target system (normally via 'edit' / 'insert' or 'Control-V'). Illustrations can be transferred in exactly the same way via 'right mouse button' & 'copy' on to the clipboard and via 'edit' / 'insert' or 'Control-V' from the clipboard on to the program required.
  • Pictures and drawings can be saved quite simply as files via the context menu (point mouse at picture, 'click the right mouse button & 'save picture under') and then open using other picture processing programs.
  • All CAD data, views, isometric drawings and photos are kept in separate sub-directories on the CD (e.g. /name/name/name). In each of these sub-directories you will find an 'allocation.txt' file that lists each item number together with the associated file name. This information enables you to have access to the CAD or picture data as required without having to call up the HEWI Infoware.
